Tower Cottage

Tower Cottage stands beside the Tower of the former Abbot's Lodging across the courtyard from the Cider House. The Tower dates from the early 14th century, although the cottage itself is later.
It offers three bedrooms, sleeping 5, with a double room, a twin room, and a single. There is a family bathroom with bath and shower. Downstairs are a sitting room, dining room, and kitchen. The cottage is well equipped, with washing machine, dishwasher, tumble dryer, microwave oven, and television. Heating is electric, charged by meter reading, with night-storage heaters and an immersion heater for hot water.
An area of the Walled Garden has been set aside for the use of tenants, with garden seats and lawns and flowers, and a seat in the wall under an ancient apple tree where, it is said, the monks came to meditate - or perhaps rest from their labours! The rest of the walled garden grows organic fruit and vegetables, and flowers for cutting, and there is usually plenty to spare for visitors.

The cottage has a phone, and duvets and blankets are provided for all beds. Sheets, towels and pillow cases can be provided for an extra charge of £8 per person.

There is also a hard tennis court which people are welcome to play on at any time (please bring tennis shoes - not trainers), and a stream through the fields which has a fascination for children.

The magnificent scenery of South-West Dartmoor offers walking, golf, fishing and riding, and there are National Trust walks through the surrounding countryside which can be joined from near the cottage. Being so near to the Cornish border, we are well placed for visiting a large number of NT houses and famous gardens in both Devon and Cornwall.
The market town of Tavistock is eight miles away; the weekly craft and antique market is fun for collectors, but most necessities can be found in Yelverton, three miles away, including meat, fish, fruit and veg. and a Post Office. The village P.O. at Crapstone (1 mile) has excellent bread. There are good local pubs in both Milton Combe (Who'd a Thought It) and Buckland Monachorum (The Drake Manor), both less than a mile away.
