The Cider House Garden

| The Cider House garden has been developed by the present owners over the last twenty years, for the last twelve of which it has been opened for the National Gardens Scheme.

The garden opens out from the front of the house with a terrace and parterre where the aim has been to reflect the mediaeval character of the house, with a small leat and a sunken herb garden alongside.

Further away the feel becomes more informal, with the old granite apple crusher under an arch of roses in the lawn, and a long woodland border leading down to a wrought-iron gate through which is a West-country wild garden with camellias and rhododendrons. A hot-border with herbaceous plants for the end of the season leads back again towards the house.

The walled kitchen garden has grown vegetables for hundreds of years, and still does so - maintained as a productive and decorative source of fruit and veg. for the house and its guests in the cottage. There is also a recently restored greenhouse, part of which grows the owner's small collection of orchids. |
